More specifically what makes Larnaka more attractive than its nearby neighbor Limassol is that the port is not so cargo dominated, hence more "Cruise Friendly" and it is located just 900 Metres from the traditional focal point of the city at the palm-lined boulevard of Finikoudes.
Larnaka is also the closest port city to Nicosia, which is the only remaining divided capital of the world, where one can cross the green line within the ancient Venetian walls from one culture to another with Passport in hand.

The port of Larnaka is actually poised to go private, following a comprehensive tender process that is now drawing a close. The finalization of the formal contract with the Cyprus Government and winning provate consortium is expected in the Spring of 2010.
